Course: Advanced Computer Applications and Web Design
Duration: One semester
Type: Elective
Eligibility: Grades 10, 11, and 12
This one-semester elective is designed
primarily to help students develop skills in designing, developing and
maintaining web sites through in-depth training in the use of Microsoft
FrontPage. Though this program greatly facilitates web publishing,
students will also gain considerable knowledge and understanding of the
syntax and structure of HTML (hypertext markup language), the language
that drives the Internet.
In
addition, students will learn practical skills in the use of digital
cameras and scanners in preparing content for the web.
Through the use of Adobe Photoshop Elements, students will become
proficient in editing and manipulating digital images, whether scans or
photographs. This will constitute about one-third of the course.
Content and direction may be influenced by the prior experiences and
interests of the individual students enrolled, to allow each of them to
get the most out of her experience. In addition to several
individual projects, students may be tasked with creating and
maintaining some portion of the Sacred Heart Academy Internet or
intranet websites.
