Introduction:

It was setting up to be an ordinary, boring day at the office. Gee, you think, there is not much call for private investigators with a degree in chemistry. Maybe I should go to work for an R&D department somewhere. Suddenly, the phone rang. It was Mr. F. S. Class, president and CEO of the firm WeInvest. The firm helped struggling inventors patent, manufacture and distribute new inventions.

“We have a job for you,” he said. “We have been approached by the famous inventor Dr. Eisenstein. He claims to have invented x-ray glasses.”

“X-ray glasses,” you reply. “Didn’t they used to advertise those on the backs of comic books?” “I know, I know, but if these pan out just think of the possibilities: No more waiting in the hospital for an x-ray. The doctor would just put on the glasses and tell you right away if your arm was broken or just sprained. Concealed weapons or smuggled drugs would be easy to spot at airports. This could make us a fortune!”

“Or lose you a fortune. Have you forgotten the time you invested in the Perpetual Motion Machine?”

“I still think that should have worked.”

You roll your eyes at that. “F.S.”, you thought, must stand for “Failed Science.”

“Anyway,” he continued, “that’s why we need you. You can tell us if these are viable before we put any money into them.”

“All right”, you say. “Set up a meeting with Dr. Eisenstein. I want to ask him some questions.”
