Presented at this year's (October 17, 2009) Connecticut Science Educator's Conference.
I talked about the simulation program Stella, and global warming project the sophomores are going to use it for. At the CSTA conference I also attended talks about polymer chemistry and using Google Earth in chemistry projects. I heard a fascinating keynote speech by Ed Buckbee about the history of the space program.

Hear me interviewed!

Here's a link to the SMARTBoard lesson podcast. I was interviewed in Lesson 112 (February 10, 2008) on using the SMARTBoard to teach chemical elements, and on the SMARTBoard research paper.

The Results are In!

Here's my paper on the SMARTBoard® research project I did.

Recent Conferences:

Connecticut Science Educators Professional Development Day, sponsored by Connecticut Science Teachers Association, October 27, 2007. At this conference I learned about using portfolios in science, changes in the Advanced Placement curriculum and constructing inquiry-based laboratory experiments. I also heard a very interesting talk about mummies by Gerald Conlogue & Ronald Beckett

Northeast Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society, June 2005. I presented a poster on the school Osteoporosis Project.

I also presented a poster on using the simulation program Stella to teach stoichiometry concepts at the 2005 Gordon Conference on Chemistry Education Research and Practice.

Education and Research Experience:

Postdoctoral Fellow, Marquette University, Milwaukee,WI. Advisor: Jeanne Hossenlopp

Research:  Used time-resolved infrared absorption spectroscopy to determine the mechanism of dissociation of formate esters. Performed ab initio  calculations to determine structure of transition states and intermediates on the excited state potential energy surfaces for ethyl formate.

Doctor of Philosophy, Dartmouth College, Hanover,NH. Research Advisor: Joseph J. BelBruno (Physical Chemistry), 1989-1997.

Research: Used the technique of time-of-flight mass spectrometry to determine the fragmentation patterns of similar cyclic compounds and their straight-chain analogues.  Used resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization to determine mechanism of dissociation of selenium and germanium alkyls.

Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY, Major: Chemistry. 1985-1989.

Research:  Used ultraviolet-visible absorbance spectroscopy to determine the mechanism and rate of a ligand-replacement reaction on a ruthenium dimer.
